Debate & Controversy
There are multiple points of view in whether shoe manufacturing is bad. The two points of view that are obvious is that if shoe manufacturing is bad or not.
First of all, “Decomposing organic shoe materials like leather and wood release methane, a harmful greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. We can’t continue to throw our footwear in the landfill and hope the problem will go away-- the world’s oldest found shoe is around 5,500 years old!”. This shows us that when throwing away a shoe can impact our environment. By changing the climate and by polluting the environment. Once there’s a climate change and it starts to affect our soil it becomes a bigger issue. When the soil becomes contaminated it goes to our water in which then gets into humans and animals. This creates health issues, such as cancer. Finding a shoe that’s from 5,500 years ago really show us that throwing a shoe is not the solution.
Second of all, shoe manufacturing can also be good in a way. On the bright side, you can make the right thing by donating your shoes to those in need or recycling your shoe. Many parts of the shoe can be recycled. For example, “ Nike Reuse-a-Shoe turns shoes into running tracks and other sports equipment.” The fact that some companies are turning this issue around is great because then they can be a good source
