The issue of manufacturing a shoe impacts the United States because it is something that happens all across the country, but the people are oblivious to this happening. The way shoe manufacturing has been an issue is throughout its workers and the environment. For example, nike basically took so much advantage of its workers that now there has been action taken care of for those incidents. Such as, “ After years of criticism over its labor practices abroad, Nike Inc. is disclosing for the first time the names and locations of more than 700 factories that produce its sneakers, apparel and other products”. That is a huge step and when closing down those factories, not only does it benefit the workers from being brutally taken advantage from, but it also helps out the environment especially when it’s 700 factories.
People can also chose to recycle their shoes, but most of us don’t. However, companies can make sustainable shoes that don’t use as much as harmful things. For example, “Shoe companies including Nike, Adidas and Patagonia have said they are trying to develop more sustainable methods for manufacturing running shoes. Nike has sought to reduce waste with its “Flyknit” technology (in which the upper part of the shoe is one piece, reducing the amount of fabric wasted) and says that nearly 85 percent of its footwear manufacturing waste is not being sent to landfill or incinerators, but is recycled and otherwise disposed of.”
